What follows is an opinion editorial - take it as you will.
It is inspired by the Calgary Herald's article May 31/2012, "Alison Redford 'advancing Alberta's interests' at elite gathering" about the Premiere going to a private meeting (of Global Financial, Industrial and Political elites) at the expense of the Province of Alberta's taxpayers (in Chantilly, Virginia, USA).
I myself have become skeptical and go on high alert of late when the words private meeting and global elites are used in the same sentence - particularly since this current Great Recession is constantly being blamed on and expressed as a "global" financial crisis. Subsequently a post such as this in a mainstream newspaper arouses curiosity for me by begging the questions:
Is this a legitimate expense for a public official? Is it a conflict of interest (or worse)? Is a public official allowed to meet behind closed doors whose minutes are not recorded and made available to the public who she is mandated to report to?
I believe this is a prime example of something not right with the politics in Canada. Is the system broken? Has what we have come to believe as the best system ever devised for mankind under the title democracy begun to blatantly expose its dark underside? Has it run its course, become bloated bureaucratically and fiscally unsustainable? Has it become a crony-capitalist, who-you-know not what-you-know, regulated democracy run by a political-financial-industrial elite? Do they completely control us and our destiny? Our children's destiny?
I certainly do not know. At least not definitively.
However, this is what I do know - most of the decisions made "for me" by our elected politicians are having less and less positive effect on me and my family's present and future prospects - financially and environmentally. Is the region of the world I was born into and am supposed to be residing freely slowly and incrementally slipping into a black hole called central world governance? Some far-off place run by - the term in current use is technocrats - a group of unelected officials?
It is a fair question - why? If on this one glaring fact alone - we live in the most rersource-rich country in the world (real assets like oil, natural gas, fresh water, gold and diamonds etc. as opposed to what is currently thought of as wealth - fiat money [money printed and digitally created out of thin air by Privately Chartered Banks contrary to the Bank of Canada act that states only the Bank of Canada {owned by us Canadians} can create money]) - and yet all our current economic woes is blamed on the state of the "world" economy. One of the largest countries in the world with a small population such as ours and our problems are because of "world" politics and "world" financial crises. Something ain't right here folks (see past articles on Central Banking and how it affects us as Canadians).
Ask anyone who cares a hoot about the world we live in and most think there is something wrong. Do you feel that as well? Most people I speak with when they are in the mood to engage in serious discussion (which is not often these days, it seems) admit they feel it too. In their gut if not in their head. What most cannot agree upon is what the root of that gut-churning feeling is - what is causing it?
When one starts on the path in search for as to why they have this unnerving feeling, two things usually happen - they uncover what they don't want to know is true and immediately stick their heads back in the sands of their habitual thinking, or, they gain courage or curiosity and continue.
Their are two types of people who live in this Global Village (as the great Canadian Media critic Marshall McLuen coined it) - those who want to live free, love free, have nutrient food and clean water on hand, appropriate shelter and freedom of movement, and the type who exploits for the acquisition of power usually represented by money and the control of resources (including an individual's labour).
In terms of the Global Village (Global due to communication technology which with every nano-second connects people more powerfully and deeply) - the term used is expressed as a percentage ratio 99 to1.
So, what has that to do with those who run this country being charlatans or fools? (by run I mean have the most influence [whether they be public employees {politicians and their assistants} or power-broker elites {like Bankers and Industrialiste}])?
Well, it comes down to this - transparency (For the diminishing number of Canadians out there who have not given up on the voting sustem that really doen't change a thing you might remember that current Prime Minister Stephen Harper ran on that platform at the beginning of his tenure as Head Employee of our country.
So - here is a list of Canadian attendees at what is called The Bilderberg Conference 2012 in Chantilly, Virginia, USA that Alison Redford Premiere of Alberta is attending as pointed out in the Calgary Herald noted at the beginning of this posting (as a side note - American citizen-journalists and some main-stream press attending outside the event have shown this private meeting under The Logan Act is illegal for their public officials to attend - yet they are there anyway. I do not know if we here in Canada have an equivalent law in place for our representatives to abide by):
Private Attendees:
W. Edmond Clark - Group Pres. and CEO, TD Bank Group.
Frank McKenna - Deputy Chair, TD Bank Group.
J. Robert S. Prichard - Chair, Tory, LLP (legal firm with offices in Toronto and Calgary, Alberta (a Redford Constituency).
Heather M, Reisman - CEO, Indigo Books and Music Inc.
Public Attendees:
Allison Redford, Premier of Alberta
Mark J. Carney - Bank of Canada Governor (also on the Board of Director's of The Bank For International Settlements which is a direct violation of his job description [see above article "....." and comment by....}).
Nigel S. Wright - Chief of Staff, Office of The Prime Minister.
As Canadians we should all demand a copy of the seconds from these meetings since Stephen Harper's top aide as well as the BoC Governor is there.
All Albertan's should demand from their premiere the same thing.
If they do not do so here are some inferences:
This can be constured as anything from treasonous to at least a conflict of interest. While we cannot demand of public officials private information about their private lives - we can demand to know about a publically announced meeting with public officials from other counties (which the press has to be notified of in order to not assume treasonous activities) and a group of private financial and corporate supranational power brokers (which is most definitively a conflict of interest).
So, is Canada being run by fools? Or Charlatans?
Well, unless we get full disclosure of what went in that admittedy private conference - these attendees can only be considered as either one or the other - you choose.
If you can't decide I am sure you have to at least agree - there's something hinky going on around here.
As the icon straight-man Desi Arnez said to his wonderfully-crazed comedic genius of a wife: "Lucy, you got some 'slainin' to do!
